| Atlanta, GA -- 6/30/2006 The Atlanta Police Foundation held its 2nd Annual Link Up Against Crime Celebrity Golf Tournament at the Atlanta Country Club on June 19, 2006 in partnership with the Patrick Kerney Foundation. Target, UPS, & the PGA Tour Superstore were the Chief Sponsors. Other sponsors included the Coca-Cola Company, Fire Magic, Under Armour and the Omni Hotel. All 128 golfers including more than a dozen Atlanta Falcon players (Warrick Dunn, Keith Brookings, Brian Finneran, Jonathan Babineaux, Leigh Torrence & Michael Vick…) enjoyed a beautiful warm day filled with golf, food and fun. Each golfer received a gift bag filled with golf memorabilia.
The Link Up Against Crime Tournament had a mirage of fantastic prizes including three hole in one prize offerings which included a sporty 2006 GS-300 Lexus (sponsored by Lexus of South Atlanta), a Hummer® golf cart (sponsored by the PGA Tour Superstore), and a set of Walter Hagin Professional Golf Clubs (sponsored by Dick’s Sporting Goods). The first place winners were the Harry Norman Team (Ursula Henry, Adam Reeves, Chuck Miller and Matt Shaub) and each player took home a beautiful acrylic golf trophy and a $250 gift card to the PGA Tour Superstore. As second place winners, the Empire Distributors team (Mike Muenchen, Chad Kelly and Jarron Harkness) each took home a beautiful acrylic golf trophy and a $175 gift card to the PGA Tour Superstore. Our third place winners were the Jimmy Johnson Team (Jimmy Johnson, Mike Long, and Jim Anwieler) and each player took home a beautiful acrylic golf trophy and a $100 gift card to the PGA Tour Superstore. Other winners included Closest to the Pin on the 3rd hole (Bryan Randall), 6th hole Chuck Miller, and 16th hole Brian Finneran, each winning a $100 gift certificate from the Atlanta Country Club Pro Shop. Chuck Miller also won a $100 gift certificate from the Atlanta Country Club Pro Shop for the Longest Drive on the 11th hole with a 323 yard drive.
The Patrick Kerney Foundation awarded three $5,000 scholarships to the surviving children of two Georgia fallen officers killed in the line of duty in Georgia. The first scholarship was awarded to Aaron J. Blount, Jr. age 4, the son of Officer Aaron Jovon Blount, of the Fulton County Sheriff’s Department who was shot and killed Tuesday, April 22, 2003 while making a traffic stop at the intersection of Roosevelt Highway and Ben Hill Road, in the Red Oak section of the county. The remaining two scholarships were awarded to the surviving children of Officer Francis Manuel Ortega of the Pine Lake Police Department, his son Frankie age 7 and daughter Keeley age 2. Officer Francis Manuel Ortega’s watch ended Thursday, August 11, 2005 when he was shot and killed during a traffic stop in front of the Pine Lake Post Office.
The evening was culminated by a silent auction of select vacation packages, golf, fishing and other sporting events and an awards ceremony and dinner. The event raised a total of $63,000. The 3rd Annual Link Up Against Crime Celebrity Golf Tournament will be scheduled for June 2007. |
