The Foundation’s bottom line is to reduce crime Although relatively young, the Foundation has moved quickly to address its mission. The Foundation has already aided the police department in achieving significant reductions in crime. Since 2003 overall crime dropped by 17%. More than $4 million has been raised to date, with the following programs and initiatives being funded in the early years of the establishment of the Foundation.

- Complete assessment of the Atlanta Police Department
- Implementation of COBRA crime tracking system
- Advanced training for APD senior manager and critical crime fighting units
- National accreditation by the Commission on Accreditation of Law Enforcement Agencies (CALEA)
- Audit of 2002 crime reports and creation of Quality Assurance Unit to ensure accuracy and completeness
- Re-engineering of critical crime fighting units
- Assessment of all beats to guide redeployment of resources (most recent assessment was done in 1985)
- Top command re-organized and 100 personnel reassigned
- Detectives decentralized
Mobilizing the Community
- Heard citizen concerns via six focus groups and community wide citizen survey
Providing Resources
- Small grants to precinct offices and APD work units
- Purchase safety vests for foot patrol officers
