(March 26, 2025) — Recently, the Atlanta Police Foundation (APF), in collaboration with the Atlanta Police Department (APD) and students from Lovett High School, hosted the fourth meeting of the Law Enforcement Ambassador Program (LEAP).
The event brought together over 25 students and faculty members to engage in meaningful dialogue with APD Chief Darin Schierbaum about the importance of policing and its role in maintaining public safety within the community.
“Our job is to ensure that everyone in our community feels safe and protected under the law,” said Chief Schierbaum to the students. “We want every voice to be heard and respected.”
LEAP aims to bridge the gap between law enforcement and the community by fostering conversations with students and highlighting the significance of public safety. Each meeting provides students with a firsthand look at the roles and responsibilities of law enforcement agencies, helping them better understand the impact of policing in their communities.
During the session, students had the opportunity to ask questions about law enforcement challenges, career paths, and how officers build trust within the community. By encouraging open dialogue, LEAP helps students gain a deeper appreciation for the complexities of policing while providing a platform for young voices to be heard.
“Programs like LEAP are crucial for shaping the next generation’s perspective on public safety,” said Joshua Chavez, Director of Inter-Agency Programs at APF. “When students and officers engage in honest conversations, it fosters mutual understanding and stronger community relationships.”
As the program continues to grow, APF remains committed to expanding its reach across Atlanta. Future meetings will feature representatives from local, state, and federal agencies, with Lovett High School and other locations serving as hosts.
