City of Atlanta Reports Significant Mid-Year Crime Reductions

July 8, 2025

In a statement last week, the City of Atlanta announced a significant decline in crime rates across the city, according to mid-year data released by the Atlanta Police Department for the week ending June 28, 2025.

The latest crime statistics show encouraging progress in public safety efforts, with notable reductions across nearly every major crime category:

  • Property crime is down by 13%
  • Overall crime across Atlanta is down 10%
  • Emergency 911 (E911) answer times have improved by nearly 50%

Violent crime has also seen a major decrease when compared to the same time last year:

  • Homicide rates have dropped by 30%
  • Shootings are down by 21%
  • Motor vehicle thefts have decreased by an impressive 40%

The Atlanta Police Department is on track to hire 600 new officers over the next 36 months with 450 of those officers expected to be on the force by the time Atlanta hosts the FIFA World Cup in 2026.

Since the 2020 crime surge, the Atlanta Police Foundation has worked with Mayor Dickens and Chief Schierbaum to restore morale, rebuild recruiting and retention, and ensure that our public safety training and resource infrastructure is equipped to meet Atlanta’s future law enforcement needs.

Restoring public safety to the historically low crime rates we achieved in 2019 remains our goal. Your support for our programs makes this progress possible.
