(August 12, 2025) — The Atlanta Police Foundation wrapped up another impactful summer with its annual @Promise Back-to-School Bash on Friday, July 25, distributing 150 backpacks filled with essential school supplies to youth enrolled in the programs at @Promise Centers.
The event welcomed a strong turnout from the community, with dozens of volunteers, youth participants, and community members joining the celebration. More than 200 attendees came together to get the youth excited for the new school year, creating a powerful atmosphere of unity and investment in Atlanta’s future. The generous support from Atlanta Barber Institute’s cosmetology and barbering students provided free haircuts and hair braiding services to ensure kids not only had the supplies they needed, but also looked and felt their best on day one.
A key part of the event’s success was the presence of uniformed Atlanta Police Department officers spending time with youth, participating in activities, and reinforcing the program’s goal of eliminating barriers between law enforcement and the communities they serve. Their presence was a meaningful step in breaking down barriers, eliminating stigma around policing, and building trust with the next generation.
The @Promise initiative, a cornerstone of the Atlanta Police Foundation youth outreach strategy, aims to reduce crime by intervening early and redirecting young people toward paths of opportunity. Each @Promise Center provides comprehensive wraparound services—including mental health counseling, academic tutoring, and career-readiness training—under one roof. These efforts are designed to help young Atlantans overcome systemic barriers while building trust and stability in their lives.
“The @Promise Centers are about more than just programming—they’re about giving young people a safe place to grow, learn, and envision a brighter future,” said Lakiesha Walker, Chief of Program Officer at Atlanta Police Foundation. “Events like the Back-to-School Bash strengthen our city by investing in its next generation.”
By creating a safe and supportive environment, @Promise continues to prove that diversion, intervention, and prevention can lead to real progress in public safety and youth development.
